It's a great pleasure to send you my greetings and best wishes. 

The World Internet of Things Convention gathers a wide range of voices to explore the many dimensions of IoT's growing influence on our economies and societies. 

This holistic view is essential. 

IoT is making a key contribution to digital transformation, across every industry and public-sector body.

This raises important questions for technology, business and policy – questions that we can consider together at ITU.  

IoT has been on our standardization agenda since 2005; and before that, by different names, such as Ubiquitous Sensor Networks. 

Today our work on IoT includes a focus on smart cities and communities.  

Achieving our IoT ambitions will call for extensive collaboration among governments, industry players, academia, and the citizens we serve. 

And that's exactly why building consensus at ITU is so important. 

Our standardization work for IoT and smart cities is led by ITU-T Study Group 20. 

ITU prides itself on being the world's most inclusive standards body. 

We offer reduced membership fees for start-ups and SMEs, academia, and companies of all sizes in developing countries. 

Standards support cost-effective growth and innovation, on a global scale – helping all companies to boost their business. 

We are also helping city leaders to make well-informed development decisions with the help of Key Performance Indicators based on ITU standards. 

More than 200 cities are using these KPIs to evaluate their progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

These cities are supported by United for Smart Sustainable Cities, an initiative backed by ITU and another 19 UN partners. 

Alongside KPI evaluations, this initiative is also supporting policy innovation – working closely with governments and city leaders. 

Its most recent reports offer policy benchmarks for cities' digital transformation, and data and API requirements for centralized smart city platforms.

这引出了在科技、商业和政策领域中的一些重要问题。我们可以在国际电信联盟共同探讨这些问题。

自2005年起，物联网就被纳入我们的标准化议程。在此之前，它有一些不同的名字，比如泛在传感器网络。

今天，我们物联网工作的重点是智慧城市和社区。实现我们的物联网愿景需要各国政府、行业人士、学术界以及我们所服务的公民开展广泛的合作。

这也正是为什么我们达成国际电信联盟共识如此重要。我们的物联网和智慧城市标准化工作由国际电信联盟电信标准化局第20研究组统筹。

国际电信联盟以其作为全球最具包容性的标准组织为荣。针对发展中国家的初创企业、中小企业、学术机构以及各类公司，我们降低了会员费用。我们提供标准化服务，支持全球范围内的降本增效和创新，助力所有企业提升业务水平。

我们还使用基于国际电信联盟标准的关键绩效指标，协助城市领导者做出明智的发展决策。目前，已有超过200个城市使用这些关键绩效指标来评估其在实现联合国可持续发展目标方面的进展。

这些城市受惠于“共建可持续智慧城市”举措，这是国际电信联盟和另外19家联合国机构联合倡导的。除了关键绩效指标评估之外，“共建可持续智慧城市”举措还与政府和城市领导者一道，共同支持政策创新。

该举措近期的工作报告为城市数字化转型提供了政策基准，以及构建集中式智慧城市平台所需的数据和应用程序接口。
