To facilitate the UN global digital cooperation and SDGs, guide the transformation of global digital economy, bridge the digital divide, and advocate for smart living, production, and work, the World Internet of Things Conference (WIOTC), in partnership with international organizations, has initiated the selection of “Globally Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy Demonstration Cities” (First Batch) in February 2025, aiming to recognize global benchmarks to provide reference for the UN, governments and enterprises, thereby building a global market for intelligently interconnected digital economy to advance the establishment of a community with a shared future for mankind as well as the innovative development of economy and society.

Applications from provincial, municipal, and state-level governments worldwide (application materials available at www.wiotc.org), and recommendation of cities with outstanding achievements in IoT digital economy and intelligent technology (including digital cities, smart cities and pilot cities for quantum communication and satellite link communication) by government agencies and international organizations are welcomed. The first batch of demonstration cities will be announced at the 2025 WIOTC to honor their contributions to the innovative development of global IoT and digital economy. Local governments around the world are encouraged to engage in the campaign to serve as global benchmarks of intelligently interconnected digital economy for growing international prestige, strengthened capacity for open collaboration, and leadership in shaping the future of the global economy and society.

The demonstration cities will have advantage in enjoying support from the development strategy of intelligently interconnected advanced digital economy as strategic partners of WIOTC, with priority in hosting city promotions and WIOTC-affiliated events, as well as access to WIOTC’s global platforms (including the World IoT Top 500 Summit) for investment attraction and local digital transformation acceleration.

WIOTC, registered with the UN ECOSOC, is a leading international organization dedicated to intelligently interconnected digital economy. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has delivered speeches at consecutive WIOTC sessions, which are highlighted on the UN’s official website. WIOTC attracts heads of state, government officials, and ambassadors in China from over 100 countries, as well as representatives from UN agencies including UNESCO, ITU and UNDP, and international organizations such as ISO, IEC, IEEE, and ETSI, with coverage by global mainstream media including Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group, Bloomberg News, Euronews, Phoenix TV, and World Journal.
