Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy Development Strategy Forum Opens in Beijing

The intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy Development Strategy Forum, hosted by the international organization “World Internet of Things Convention(WIOTC)”, was held in Beijing, China, on July 20, 2025, representing a prelude to the upcoming annual conference “World Internet of Things Convention 2025” (WIOTC 2025) and First Sustainable Development Conference of Global Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy. Themed "Innovating the Digital Economy, Leading the Global Future," the Forum comprised in-depth discussions on future development strategy topics such as the global trends of digital economic development, strategic pathways for the intelligently interconnected digital economy, opportunities for cities and enterprises developing digital economy and technology and frameworks of international standards for the above-mentioned digital economy. Mr. He Xuming, Chairman of WIOTC Executive Committee, and Mr. Li Bohu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), gave a keynote report titled “Development Strategy of Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy" and "Understanding and Practices of Intelligently Interconnected Internet of Things" respectively. Representatives from government agencies, embassies in China, international organizations, strategic think tanks, IoT digital economy enterprises as well as academia from over 10 countries participated in this forum.

Chairman He Xuming made a proposal to set a strategic direction of moving from the current digital economy to a kind of advanced digital economy. He championed the initiative to utilize a new generation of IoT intelligent technology to build a principal and ecological market of intelligently interconnected digital economy in the world so as to foster a truly fair and just economic and social world for the benefits of people’s smart life and work. In his keynote report, he pointed out that the intelligently interconnected digital economy is reshaping a brand-new world. The digital economy driven by IoT intelligent technology is contributing to the world economy as a major force. More than 50 major economies worldwide are scrambling to seize a leading position in terms of innovation and development of digital economy. It is expected that by 2025, the global number of connected things will exceed 30 billion, up by over 20%; the number of connected things in China is estimated to exceed 3 billion, with an increase of nearly 20%; the total global digital economy will exceed $40 trillion, rising by nearly 15%. Currently, the US ranks first in the world in terms of digital economy as its market scale has reached $15 trillion. According to estimates, the United States will give way to China in terms of digital economy scale next year. Beijing, the capital of China, is expected to see its digital economy scale reach RMB 2.5 trillion, as it is home to over 200,000 enterprises possessing the basic conditions for developing advanced digital economy, all making the city a global demonstration center for intelligently interconnected digital economy.

In his report titled "Understanding and Practices of Intelligently Interconnected Internet of Things ", Academician Li Bohu elaborated on specific methods and strategic suggestions for the transformation and upgrading of the current digital economy towards an advanced digital economy.

Mr. Qian Hongshan, Former Vice Minister of International Department of Central Committee of CPC (IDCPC), and Mr. Ahmed Mustafa, Ambassador of League of Arab States to China delivered speeches for the forum respectively. Mr. Soltan Balamov, Deputy Director of Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) of Ministry of Azerbaijan, Mr. Li Zhengmao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of World Broadband Association (WBBA), Mr. Gong Ke, Acting President of Chinese Institute for the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies (CINGAI), Mr. Ni Jianzhong, Executive President of the China Mobile Communications Association (CMCA), Ms. Chen Wenling, Former Chief Economist of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), Mr. Chen Shuyi, Deputy Secretary-General of SAC/TC 28/SC 41, Mr. Yan Deli, Senior Expert of Tencent Research Institute,  Mr. Liu Dacheng, Chairman of Xiong' an New Area Robot Innovation Technology Research Institution (RITRI), Ms. Feng Shuoli, Marketing General Manager of Haier Smart Home North China Region and  a global IoT digital economy demonstration enterprise, and Mr. Gong Ke, Acting President of Chinese Institute for the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies (CINGAI) respectively gave speeches on topics such as "Jointly Explore the Path to Innovative Development of Global Digital Economy", "The Strategic Foundation of China's Intelligent Internet of Things", "Strengthening Broadband Infrastructure to Foster the Innovative Development of Intelligent Internet of Things", "The Digital Economy Should Evolve into a Smart and Green Economy", "National Digital Transformation", "Frameworks for International Standards in the Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy", "Intelligent Interconnection of All Things Empowers Smart Life", and "Intelligent Interconnection of all Things Unlocks the Future; Industrial Innovation Strides Toward Prosperity". They gave strategic insights into the digital economy and global development strategies. On top of that, with a focus on transformation and upgrading of the IoT and digital economy, they analyzed the strategic thinking of the IoT-powered interconnected digital economy.

Mr. Goe Guan, Head of Policy of GSMA Greater China, Mr. Xing Lei, Director-General of World Green Design Organization (WGDO), Mr. Zhang Chuang, Director of Baoding Municipal Data Bureau, Hebei Province, and Mr. Jason Guo, Vice President of Yonyou Group participated in the high-end meeting and engaged in lively discussions on strategic issues such as the direction of digital economy innovation and development, the development of digital economy by governments and enterprises, and the standards for the advanced intelligently interconnected digital economy. They reached a consensus that the intelligently interconnected digital economy is the future development strategy for countries around the world and the global society. Mr. Xin Pengjun, Editor-In-Chief of Communications Weekly presided over this dialogue.

Ms. Liang Zi, WIOTC Spokesperson moderated the Press Conference session for the World Internet of Things Convention 2025 and the First Conference on Sustainable Development of Global Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy which will be held in Beijing, China, from November 27 to 29.

This forum has provided a reference for governments and enterprises around the world in terms of their digital economy transformation and upgrading strategies through insightful speeches while pointing out the direction for innovative development of human economic society. It has become a high-level strategic forum for strengthening international exchange and cooperation innovation and guiding the innovative development of the IoT- powered digital economy around the world. Mr. Zhang Hua and Mr. Su Tao, Vice Chairman of the WIOTC Executive Committee delivered welcome speeches on behalf of the forum.
